Never before have so many people attended a March for Jesus in Austria. At least 20,000 Christians marched through Vienna’s city center on Saturday, September 19, 2026, celebrating a powerful festival of faith and unity. The procession stretched for about one kilometer and was roughly 20 meters wide. Nearly 2,500 banners were displayed, and more than 2,200 branded T-shirts were sold in the run-up to the event.
This year’s “March for Jesus” in Vienna was a resounding success; never before had so many people in our country taken part. At least 20,000 participants gathered last Saturday to make a visible statement of their faith in Jesus and their commitment to love for their neighbors. This marks a new record in the history of the “March for Jesus” in Austria.
“We are absolutely thrilled by the tremendous response and the many people who traveled to Vienna,” said lead organizer Johannes Unosson. Believers arrived from all over Austria—traveling via organized buses from Salzburg, Upper Austria, and Carinthia, as well as by train, car, and public transport.
Hundreds of Volunteers in Action
More than 600 volunteers contributed their time—both beforehand and on the day itself—in areas such as music, stewarding, media, children’s programming, and organization. In total, they dedicated over 10,000 hours of volunteer work. “They took part because they are passionate about Jesus and wanted to share that life-changing enthusiasm with as many people as possible,” Unosson explained.
Unity in Practice Across Denominations
The march was defined by ecumenism, community, and a shared faith in Jesus. Over a hundred churches, congregations, and organizations from across Austria—ranging from free churches, the Roman Catholic Church, and parts of the Protestant Church to other Christian faith communities—jointly supported the event.
“The March for Jesus was not a demonstration against anything, but a shared celebration of faith that put belief in Jesus at the forefront and celebrated it publicly,” stated the organizing team. The event was organized by the Kreis zur Einheit (Circle for Unity) in collaboration with the Evangelical Alliance Austria and the Runder Tisch – Weg der Versöhnung (Round Table – Path of Reconciliation).
Diverse Program and Lively Atmosphere
The musical lead-up to the weekend began on Friday evening, September 18, with the band Worship Revolution from Wels performing at the Novum Vienna. On Saturday, participants gathered at Schwarzenbergplatz starting at 12:00 p.m.; following a time of worship with the Himmelstürmer initiative, the six-kilometer march around the Vienna Ring Road began at 1:30 p.m. Many joined the procession on foot, while others rode along in an open-top double-decker bus.
Afterward, a varied children’s program provided entertainment for the youngest visitors before the “Festival for Jesus” took place at Schwarzenbergplatz. The event concluded on a celebratory note at 9:30 p.m., featuring Key2Life concerts by Solarjet, Copain, and Martin Smith, alongside personal testimonies and prayers.
